We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager in the Houston, Texas region.
The role is focused on the successful management and execution of projects in the Texas region; focusing on Scope, Cost, Schedule – as well as Safety and Quality of execution of Technical Field Service and Engineering projects. Projects typically cover Electrical Maintenance, Engineering Design and Electrical Upgrades of generation and electrical infrastructure / equipment.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful candidate will be accountable to work independently - coordinating and leading project teams; ultimately creating a superior client experience. This role is full time (salaried - 40 hours per week).
Accountabilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following areas:
1. Service Scope
Managing Scope, Cost and Schedule of preventative maintenance projects and programs for public and private facilities
Engineering Projects for System Design and/or Upgrade projects
Participating in final bid reviews and project execution schedules/methodologies.
Scheduling and preparing work orders
2. Client Development
Foster the Client relationships through daily interaction and scope development
Identify additional opportunities for the Client and communicate them to the Sales Team
Assist Sales team with preparing project estimates and performing site walk throughs
Facilitate clarifications – when required
3. Job Execution
Continuous interaction with the Client.
Effectively manage team(s) of electricians, technicians and/or engineers designated to the respective project(s).
Coordinate work orders with Client Operations and Maintenance crews
Coordinate work for larger crews during maintenance turnarounds.
Participate on site and lead execution crews
Work with the Client’s planners to optimize and improve work orders where possible.
Provide project status updates to Management and Sales
Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders regarding milestone achievements (or deviations) pertaining to, scope, cost, schedule, opportunities, safety and quality etc.
Escalate awareness of issues and concerns on projects within a timely manner to the Regional and Sales Manager(s)
Develop project / site strategy and execution schedule
Ensure leadership in safety excellence is demonstrated onsite
Responsible for site quality documentation and document reviews
Responsible for the safety of yourself and crew members working under your supervision.
Ensure scheduled work is completed in accordance with the agreed Scope, Cost and Schedule per Client work orders.
Ensure documentation is completed, compiled and filed in accordance with client procedures’ - including management reports and daily/weekly/monthly reports as per client requirements.
Maintain, mitigate and manage project risks and associated documentation
4. Reporting
Ensure completion and submission of all documents
Ensure Client drawings are accurate and up to date for applicable scopes
Complete technical reviews
Manage Change Log, Change Orders, RFI’s and project reporting
Support invoicing by ensuring Labor, Equipment and Material usage is tracked and approved
5. Job Follow-up
Ensure work orders are completed as required. Where this is not possible, communication with the Client and prepared associated Change Orders
Provide feedback to the Regional Manager on project execution and employee performance onsite
6. Leadership
Integrate junior employees into projects in a safe manner
Lead, mentor and develop employees
7. Safety
Ensure all safety policies are adhered to at all times
Participate in safety meetings and present 1-2 monthly topics
Be known as a Magna safety leader on at all facilities.
Manage HSEQ reporting in accordance with company and client policies (Near Miss, Incident reports, for example)
Required Skills and Qualifications
10+ years’ experience as an Electrical Field Technician / Electrical Engineer
Neta III / IV or Professional Engineer (TX/LA) preferred (Electrical Engineering degree is an asset)
Hands-on field experience commissioning, testing or maintaining power delivery equipment, including generators, breakers, switchgear, relays, transformers.
Broad knowledge of institutional, industrial & commercial environments
OSHA Certification (or completion of OSHA 20 within first 2 weeks of appointment to the role)
Proven experience leading engaged and productive project teams
Must have a valid driver’s license
Second language skills (specifically Spanish) would be an asset
Ability to self-manage with proven initiative and Client focus
Proficient computer experience in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications
Strong problem solving skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
Must be able to work in a dynamic work environment
Excellent time management skills with an attention to detail
MUST have the ability to work flexible shifts, which include weekends, evenings and statutory holidays
Ability to travel regularly throughout the delivery region
Ability to travel outside the delivery region
Team player with excellent communication skills both written and verbal
A positive, “can-do” attitude
